Jackson custom type parse – serialization annotation

It’s so simple 😀
Tested with apache tomee and jackson 2.4.3 (jackson 1.9.x compatible in theory)

For this example we will serialize a Date type.

In getter (or field):

    @JsonSerialize(using = JsonDateSerializer.class)
    public Date getFecInscripcion() {
        return fecInscripcion;

Implementation Class:

import com.fasterxml.jackson.core.JsonGenerator;
import com.fasterxml.jackson.core.JsonProcessingException;
import com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.JsonSerializer;
import com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.SerializerProvider;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.text.SimpleDateFormat;
import java.util.Date;

public class JsonDateSerializer extends JsonSerializer<Date> {

    private static final SimpleDateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");

    public void serialize(Date date, JsonGenerator gen, SerializerProvider provider)
            throws IOException, JsonProcessingException {
        String formattedDate = dateFormat.format(date);
